Wining and Dining in Perthshire

Plate of food and glass of wine by fireplace

Perthshire is the heart the Scotland, metaphorically and geographically. It even had the nickname of the ‘big county’ because it is the largest of them all. Because of this it is one of the most popular areas for visitors to stop off at and explore. It's right in the heart of Scotland so Perthshire is a central hub for people travelling  from all over the world and those who want to taste the local dining experiences.

For starters (pardon the pun) you can start off your day at The Murraypark with a traditional Scottish breakfast.  You can taste locally produced jams, award winning sausages and of course the Scottish delight, haggis. Then, later in the day you can tuck into a memorable dining experience at our restaurant, or enjoy a meal at the Crieff Hydro using your ‘Passport to Crieff Hydro’. The passport gives you access to a choice of seven eateries  So take your pick from the delights of Stewart Dairy ice cream from The Hub, pizza in Piccolo, our Italian pizzeria or Scottish cuisine with a twist in The Meikle Restaurant.

At the  Murraypark Hotel we  serve fresh, locally grown seasonal fruits and vegetables to accompany the perfect meal. You can also sample some of the wine from Cairn O’Mohr Winery, right here in Perthshire. So, not only can you experience a massive selection of locally and countrywide produced whiskies, but also wine too, making your own wining and dining experience highly memorable.

Fancy a round of golf?  Up here in bonny Scotland we might not always have the best weather, but we do have some of the most fantastic golf courses in the entire United Kingdom and they are so good that the weather doesn’t matter. Come rain or shine you will see a host of people out there playing, regardless of the conditions.  Aside from the obvious plethora of golf courses in Scotland, you will probably note the abundance of hotels, namely in Perth. We at the Murraypark Hotel offer 3 star accommodation in Perth, Scotland perfect for both weekend stays and working weeks.
Travelling with work can be tiring and at the end of a long day, you will probably want nothing more than an ice cold drink, a warm shower and a comfy bed to get a good night’s rest.  You can pretty much bet that you will get a relaxing night in the Murraypark Hotel as the surrounding area is so peaceful. The area has parks, walking routes and bike tracks for those whose time away from home includes a few days of ‘down time’ or spare time.  You certainly won’t go hungry with our superb on-site restaurant either! You probably won’t find a better 3 star Crieff hotel, plus you also get the Passport to Crieff Hydro, allowing you to take full advantage of our sister hotel’s facilities. What more could you ask for?

If your significant other thinks that golf is a four letter word you might want to consider one of our special offers coming up in June. Here at the Murraypark Hotel, between 1st and 6th June you can join one of our special ‘all abilities’ competitions we are holding. Based at the Crieff Golf Club along with the beautiful St. Fillan’s Golf Club we are offering varied tee-times to anyone who wants to play.  Using the competitions to improve your game is one aspect but you can also use that time to get our on-site coach to help you improve your overall game.

Get into the Swing of things

The full programme is available from our website and begins with drinks and a welcome BBQ on Sunday 1st June, followed shortly afterward with a game of 9-hole Texas Scramble, over at the Dornoch course. Now, having said that about the significant other maybe not being a golf fan, we should mention that the weekend is not exclusive to one particular type of golfer, and if you happen to be a female whose significant other doesn’t like golf, you can leave them at home and come and join us too! We have a ‘Ladies’ Stableford’ at the Ferntower course on Monday and Tuesday—2nd and 3rd respectively—and the medals will be presented on the Friday morning. At 6.30pm on the Friday there will be a reception and prize giving ceremony to round off the perfect golfing week.

Sporting deals

So, you might be wondering how much this little shindig is going to cost you. Well, you are going to be pleasantly surprised, actually, to learn that your stay will only cost you £121 per person per night and that includes all your golfing and tuition fees! What a bargain! It’s hard to turn that down, right? Plus, you can benefit from our single occupancy offers, full breakfast—Scottish of course—and dinner, with daily entertainment as well as use of the pool and gym. You can’t really do better than that for the ideal week away, so why not get onto our site and start your booking ‘while stocks last’! Come play golf and have fun with us at the Murraypark.

Experience the Ring of Breadalbane by Bus

It isn’t often you come across great areas of natural beauty that are accessible by public transport. Many parts of the Scottish Highlands are only accessible by car, or after a long trek or cycle. However, in Perthshire we have the exception: You can experience some of the most spectacular natural features of the Scottish Highlands within the Ring of Breadalbane.  The Ring is a circular route that takes in the popular Perthshire tourist locations of Crieff, Comrie, St Fillans, Lochearnhead, Killin, Kenmore and Aberfeldy.

Your ticket to adventure

The Ring of Breadalbane  Explorer Bus is available from June to September and provides a hop-on-hop-off bus service on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Sweeneys of Muthill operates a clockwise route starting and finishing at Crieff, while Kingshouse Travel run an anti-clockwise circuit centred on Killin. It must be one of the prettiest bus routes in the world!
You can experience the landscape, the Scottish heritage, the culture and the fresh air of Perthshire, deep in the Highlands of Scotland.  En route, you can visit the take Highland safaris, and even try the Famous Grouse Experience —after which, you might want to sit down in case you fall down!

Hop-on, Hop-off

You can get on at any stop and hop off anywhere, to stop and enjoy the sights, sounds and experiences. Pass through the Killin area into Kenmore and then to Crannig, on to the Watermill at Aberfeldy and then Dewar’s Whisky. Head down to Crieff and then over to the Auchingarrich Wildlife Park before heading back full circle—hence why they call it the ‘ring of Breadalbane’ and home to the final stop.
Tickets are not too expensive at around £9/£15 per day, depending on whether you get a one day ticket or two day ticket.  If you don’t want to get a whole day ticket you can just pay as you go for what you ride. It does work out cheaper to get the day ticket, however and you can benefit from using it how and when you like, in case you decide to change your mind and hang on a little longer.

Bring your bike along too

Not only can you ride the bus but if you want, you can bring your bike, too. You can also choose to cycle the circle instead of taking the bus, or take the bus for the first leg, then cycle, then bus and so on. The choice really is yours and you are free to do whatever you want up here! Its fresh clean air will bring new life to your lungs and the smells of the welcoming countryside will make you feel completely at home. The locals don’t bite, either, so do come up and visit us at the Murraypark Hotel for a time and see just how lovely it is!
